THE EPISTLE TO THE HEBREWS

Hebrews. To professing Jews, some false-professors mixed might not break free Judaism. Exposed to Person of Christ, attracted by external blessings, in danger of apostasy! To detach believer’s heart from earthly religion and attach to Christ in heaven. Glories unfolded! Opened heavens. Author unnamed, Christ is Apostle. Contrasts and of parallelism. Christ far superior to all Israel had. Old Testament typology. Takes us inside the veil, outside the camp. Conclusion: “go forth” (Heb. 13:13-14). Ch. 1-8 greatness of Person, ch.9-10 of His work, ch.11-13 encouragement/exhortations.

Hebrew-Christian epistles. To Jews that believed, including profession, in special circumstances. James (A.D. 45). no call to leave, still keeping law (Acts 21:18-24), faith be manifested by works! Hebrews (A.D. 63) a call to separate. Peter (A.D. 65-67), believers had already left, feeling the loss. A common theme: reality of faith lived. Not Church.
